The Washingtons’ “extremely odd assortment of neighbors” becomes an improvised defense network when the Christmas Eve holiday gathering is swallowed by blackout, infiltration, and war. The group begins as ordinary people in a Virginia suburb and is forced to make collective decisions about protection, weapons, trust, family, and survival before any formal resistance structure exists.
